Viet Thanh Nguyen

Masterplanning. Urban Design. Architecture.

Viet is a multilingual professional who has practised since 2013. He has delivered robust, responsive, and viable designs at feasibility, outline and detail level including masterplanning, urban design and architectural proposals for governmental, commercial and private clients such as Homes England, Bloor Homes, the Crown Estate, or the MOD.

He has experience in advice service via effective use of visual or written reports and supporting documents that cover different stages from site appraisals to concept development and detail drawing. His project types include strategic spatial planning, defence, industry, education, housing, and town centre regeneration ranging in scale from individual buildings to large mixed-use urban extensions.

He is particularly keen on solutions that demonstrate a profound appreciation for context through thorough site analyses from which a proposal can respond effectively to its constraints and potentials, and make a viable economic case. He believes that a successful project is the result of a holistic and effective cross-disciplinary collaboration between the clients, the consultants, and the local authorities to create places of distinctive quality. Being with a multidiscilpinary environmental and infrastructure consultancy since 2016, Viet works closely with the planning, landscape, transport, ecology and civil engineering teams.

He is passionate about nature and heritage conservation, or home zone designs that aim for achieving net zero carbon targets, social equity, high quality public spaces, and Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems. Viet maintains good connections with fellow Vietnamese researchers and designers around the world to help local groups and authorities in Vietnam address various development issues.

Viet has been in a part-time training in architecture and he is a RIBA Student member. In 2020, Viet took part in the two and a half day Portsmouth Phoenix event along with 30 fellow planners and architects to explore future housing and sustainability solutions in Portsmouth.

When not at work, Viet has a passion for cooking. Besides, he used to work as a PADI Divemaster and butler at a high end Six Senses resort.
